Visual Studio: Community vs Professional vs Enterprise (2022)
Community ist kostenlos — wozu also Pro und Enterprise? Was jede Stufe freischaltet und wer legal eine bezahlte Lizenz braucht.
Visual Studio Community is genuinely free and full-featured — but its license restricts who can use it for commercial work. That restriction is the entire reason Professional and Enterprise exist as paid tiers.
| Community | Professional | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free | Paid | Paid (~5× Pro) |
| IDE features | Full IDE | Full IDE | Full IDE |
| Commercial use in orgs | Limited (<250 PCs or <$1M rev) | Yes | Yes |
| Code coverage / testing tools | — | — | ✓ |
| Live debugging / snapshot | — | — | ✓ |
| Architecture tools | — | — | ✓ |
When Community is enough
- •Solo devs, students, open-source contributors — always fine
- •Small teams under the revenue/device limits
- •Learning, side projects, non-commercial work
When you must pay
Any commercial use inside a company above the limits requires Professional minimum. Enterprise adds the testing and diagnostics toolchain — worth it only for teams that will actually use code coverage, snapshot debugging, and architecture validation.
